What's the difference between the DCPA-4k Plus and the DCPA-4000?
The difference is the receiver. Both kits use the same DCPT-4000 sensor, but the DCPA-4000 includes the DCR-4000 receiver. The DCR-4000 will play a chime/tune when the sensor is activated. The receiver will only give a sound, there are no additional outputs.
The DCPA-4k Plus includes the RE-4k Plus receiver. The RE-4k Plus will play a chime/tune when the sensor is activated but there are also two Form C (NO/NC) relay outputs as well as a 12 VDC output. The outputs can be set to activate for 1, 5, 15 seconds or 5 minutes when the sensor is activated. The outputs could be used to connect to a home automation panel or the 12 VDC could be used to power a bell or strobe light.
What does a two probe system do for me that I single probe system will not do?
The DAPT-4000 uses two probes that are spaced 4 feet apart along the driveway. Using two probes gives us the ability to determine the direction of travel. You can get different signals for inbound and outbound vehicles, or you can set it up so you only get signals for inbound and ignore the outbound. Also, the dual probe technology give a much greater immunity to any false signals that might be caused by a nearby lighting strike. The DAPT-4000 is the best vehicle sensor option available.
Why would I choose a probe over a motion sensor?
The DCPT-4000 is a wireless probe sensor that will detect vehicles entering the driveway. The probe is buried alongside the driveway and it will detect the metal of a car passing by about 10 to 12 feet away. The vehicle sensor will not detect deer or other large animals so you will avoid false signals from those.
