Solar Break Beam

The SBB-4000 is a solar powered break beam sensor that works with any Dakota Alert 4000 Series receiver. The sensors can be located up to 300 feet apart and will send a wireless signal up to 1 mile* any time a car or person breaks the beam. Each beam unit has two solar panels to help ensure proper charging throughout the day. Includes mounts for both a flat surface and pipe mount up to 1.5”.

Longest wireless range in its class- One mile wireless range is much greater than other products that claim ¼ mile or ½ mile. The long range means the radio signal is more likely to get through to the receiver.

*Actual range will vary depending on the local terrain.
  • What's the difference between the SBA-4k Plus and the SBA-4000?

The difference is the receiver.  Both kits use the same SBB-4000 sensor, but the SBA-4000 includes the DCR-4000 receiver.  The DCR-4000 will play a chime/tune when the sensor is activated.  The receiver will only give a sound, there are no additional outputs.

The SBA-4k Plus includes the RE-4k Plus receiver.  The RE-4k Plus will play a chime/tune when the sensor is activated but there are also two Form C (NO/NC) relay outputs as well as a 12 VDC output.  The outputs can be set to activate for 1, 5, 15 seconds or 5 minutes when the sensor is activated.  The outputs could be used to connect to a home automation panel or the 12 VDC could be used to power a bell or strobe light.

  • Why use this over a motion sensor?

The advantages of use this over a Wireless motion sensor are as follows:

    • Solar power means no batteries need to be changed.
    • A break beam, as the name implies, means the only way the signal will be sent is if someone (or something) physically breaks the beam.  A motion sensor has a wider field, meaning it’s more likely to send a signal if, say, a dog runs through its field.
